Form of Government
The citizens of Kaufamn adopted the Council-Manager form of government in 1987 (see Charter.) It is a government overseen by an elected policy body of seven members, led by the Mayor and the Mayor Pro Temp in the Mayor's absence. It is a corporate structure similar to business. The board (or Council in our case) oversees the operations and determines what services the City will provide and at what cost. The day to day operations are administered by the chief executive officer (the City Manager.) In other words, the Council is going to determine what the City is going to do and the City Manager and the rest of the staff are going to determine how we are going to do it.
Council Meetings
The City Council holds their regular monthly meetings on the third (3rd) Monday of each month unless a City observed holiday falls on that particular Monday. If this occurs, the meeting is scheduled for another day during that month. The rescheduled meeting date as well as any other special sessions will be posted on the City’s web site on this page and the “Calendar of Events” page as soon as it is determined.
Unless otherwise noted, all City Council meetings are held in the Council Chamber Room inside City Hall located at 209 South Washington Street.
As required by State law, an agenda for each meeting is conveniently posted for the public to view at least seventy-two (72) hours prior to the meeting. The City’s official posting site for the City Council agendas is on the front glass of City Hall located at 209 South Washington Street. Current agendas and past agendas can be located on the "Minutes and Agendas" page.
For those citizens that have special needs to attend the meeting please call the City Secretary in advance at 972.932.2216. We will try to accommodate your needs.
Persons who would like to speak to the Council, please arrive early enough to fill out a "Request to Speak" form.
The City Council is always seeking Kaufman residents that are willing to serve on the various Boards and Commissions. Go to the Boards and Commissions page to see what the responsibilities of our boards are and fill out an application.
